Police thank members of the public who helped the investigation after video released
A 39-year-old man from Vaughan has been charged with assault with a weapon for allegedly throwing coffee at a Toronto Transit Commission bus driver in June.
York Regional Police say the man was arrested on Tuesday. He is due to appear in Newmarket, Ont. court on Thursday.
Police released a video of the incident last week that showed a man tossing coffee at a bus driver on June 8.
Police said the bus driver recognized the man from a month earlier, when the man had allegedly verbally abused the driver and stole a transfer slip when he got off the bus.
The bus driver told the man to leave, and refused to drive until the man got off, police said. The man refused and walked to the back of the bus.
“The man became angry,” said police in a news release. “And assaulted the driver by throwing a cup of coffee on him from a silver thermal travel mug.”
The driver was not injured.
Police thanked members of the public for their assistance in the investigation.
