Falling through the ice normally results in the death of the snowmobiler

RCMP say it’s a miracle a Manitoba woman survived after spending several hours in the frigid waters of Lake Winnipegosis.

Police say a snowmobile the 38-year-old woman was riding crashed through the ice on Saturday when she and a male companion were returning from ice fishing.

Cpl. Miles Hiebert says the 48-year-old man who was driving the snowmobile is missing and presumed drowned.

He says family members found the woman in the water several hours later.

She was taken to hospital and is being treated for exposure.

RCMP say divers are heading to the area, which is more than 10 kilometres from shore, to look for the man.

  1. I asked her how I ended up in my room and she said that she had put me there a few hours after I had fallen asleep.
