Something in the behaviour of a driver pulled over for speeding Tuesday triggered the Mountie to look for more than a driving infraction, and led to the seizure of a suitcase full of money.
The driver, a 35-year-old Surrey man, was allegedly speeding on Highway 5 north of Kamloops when a member of the RCMP traffic section pulled him over.
“While dealing with the driver, the officer noted several indicators that caused him to enter into an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act,” according to an RCMP news release issued Friday.
“The driver was detained and a police service dog was deployed.”
Following the arrest, officers searched the vehicle and found a suitcase stuffed with $61,140 in cash in the trunk.
The driver is scheduled to appear April 11 in Kamloops court on charges of possession of property obtained by crime.
