The reserved lane on Highway 20, until now used for only buses and taxis, can be used by electric vehicles or by carpoolers with at least three people aboard starting Tuesday.

Quebec Transport Minister Robert Poëti made the announcement Monday as part of the government’s plan for the electrification of transport in the province.

The lane, which runs 4.5 kilometres between Bouchard Ave. in Dorval and 10th Ave. in Lachine, was opened in November of last year.

“This measure will promote carpooling and the use of electric vehicles, which will allow for interesting benefits for the fluidity and sustainable mobility, especially when it comes to the reduction of polluting emissions,” Poëti said in a statement.
