Everyone has heard that Ottawa has a nasty habit of eating its’ politicians; but it’s rare that the streets of Ottawa has an appetite for the vehicles that travel on its asphalt.

Fire officials in Ottawa say a driver suffered minor injuries after a car went into a sinkhole on Tuesday afternoon.

The four-door sedan was headed eastbound on the highway and turning off at Jeanne D’Arc Tuesday afternoon when the incident occurred.

Spokesman Marc Messier says the car fell into the hole on the Highway 174 off-ramp at Jeanne D’arc Boulevard.

Ottawa fire department spokesman Marc Messier said the driver of the vehicle “crawled out on his own” after his car fell into the massive sinkhole.

Messier says the rear bumper and a wheel were all that was showing when emergency crews arrived at the scene.

The driver was the only person in the car.

Police have closed the exit and Highway 174 eastbound from Jeanne D’Arc to Montreal Road.
