We knew it would be more expensive to live in Canada based on the changes that  Prime Minister Stephen Harper put into effect for 2011 and based on the HST and all of the other increases that Premier Dalton McGuinty has saddled Ontarions with, but who would have thought that Highway 407 would be raising most of their fees as well on February 1, 2011.

Despite Ontario's Recession and High Cost of Living, which will become even higher in 2011, Highway 407 ETR will be raising its rates again on February 1, 2011

Here is a list of the increased costs, starting on February 1, 2011:

  • Leasing of Transponder
  • = increased .25 cents to $2.75

  • Video toll charge
  • (for cars without transponder) = increased by .5 cents to $3.65 per trip

Trip Toll Charge, for every single trip:

  • increased by .10 cents to .50 cents for every light vehicle
  • increased by .20 cents to .60 cents for every heavy vehicle
  • increased by .45 cents to .85 cents for heavy multiple vehicles
  • Light Vehicles in Light Zone:

  • increase of 1.35 cents to 21.45 cents for Peak Hours
  • increase of 1.15 cents to 21.25 cents for Peak Periods
  • increase of .1 cent to 19.35 cents for Off-Peak Hours (weekends and holidays)
  • Light Vehicles in Regular Zone:

  • Increase of 1.6 cents to 22.95 cents for Peak Hours
  • Peak Hours are defined as follows:

  • 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday
  • 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Light Vehicles in Regular Zone:

  • Increase of 1.4 cents to 22.75 cents for Peak Periods
  • Peak Periods are defined as follows:

  • 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday to Friday
  • 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Reducing the Light Zone and Increasing the Regular Zone:

To add insult to injury and to further gouge the motor vehicle operator, the 407 ETR is reducing the “Light Zone” (the stretch of highway that costs less to travel on):

  • between Highway 403 and Highway 401 and
  • between Highway 400 and Highway 404
  • and will increase the “Regular Zone” (the stretch of highway that costs more to travel on):

  • between the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and Highway 403 and
  • between Highway 401 and Highway 400 and
  • between Highway 404 and Brock Road
