Ohioans looking to renew their drivers licenses this week have been stymied by a technical glitch.
Deputy registrars have had trouble renewing licenses or issuing new ones since Monday when the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ system crashed during a national database update, said spokeswoman Lindsey Bohrer.
The system was inaccessible for most of Monday and has been sporadic since.
Drivers whose licenses are close to expiring will be issued letters that they can show law enforcement officers if they are pulled over, Bohrer said. Others who have more time to renew can call ahead to see if the system is working.
The glitch hasn’t affected state identification cards or vehicle registrations, Bohrer said.
